It’s been a rough week (see yesterday’s post about my mom), but it wasn’t all bad. Here are three things that kept me going this week.

No. 1: Day Trip to Friday Harbor

We didn’t go anywhere for Memorial Day weekend. The planner in our family (that would me) was busy writing her National Boards and didn’t have time to plan a trip, so we frantically looked on Airbnb and VRBO for a place to go the week before Memorial Day, and came up empty. So we stayed home, had a barbeque with the in-laws on Saturday (my husband made hummus from scratch as our appetizer-see below), and took the ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island on Monday.

The highlight of the trip was seeing a pod of Orca whales on the ferry ride over. Overall, it was a good trip, but we all came back super tired. It’s hard to travel with an 18-month-old!

No. 2: Target Tassel Slides

I’d been eyeing these tassel slides for a few weeks and finally bought them 20% off using the Target Cartwheel app. They’re fairly comfortable, and I’m digging the festive tassels and fun colors.

No. 3: Reading

I have gotten back into my reading habit now that National Boards are done. Currently, I’m reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and, if anyone were so inclined, I could possibly be persuaded to hike part of the Pacific Crest Trail. But maybe don’t tell my husband that. The former Eagle Scout might suggest we start next weekend.

How did you spend Memorial Day weekend? Any books you’re currently loving? Share with me in the comments!

  • aloha!
I’d be down for a teeny part of the PCT with y’all!
    🙂
Happy summer & hope JJ & I can come up north to see you!

    • I hope you guys can make it up here, too! I’d say we’d love to meet you down south, but after our trip to Friday Harbor, I don’t know if we’ll ever leave the house again. It was exhausting keeping up with a toddler. I say that now, but I know we’re going to get amnesia and go on another excursion. So maybe we will see you on Bainbridge!
